It was great to see everyone back this week! Hope you had a fabulous winter break.
This is what to expect during this week - Math - We will continue with volume and finish out with composite figures of rectangles and squares. This can get a little complicated if you are not a visual learner. Students have enjoyed building the figures we will be working with this week and are looking forward to exploring new ways to understand volume. Grammar/Language Arts - We will drill and kill capitalization this week - no kidding. There are about six sections in our grammar book that will cover typical capitalization rules, but we will explore how to use this concept in outlines and abbreviations. Science - We will continue with electricity and circuits throughout the week and will be working with snap circuits! They are always a big hit! Social Studies - We have started our unit on World War II and already students are excited about the various activities we have planned. This unit is a favorite for all 5th graders! Writing - We will complete our expository research paper this week and get ready for presentations. We will also begin looking at writing samples and rubrics in anticipation of the Milestone Test. Students will have the opportunity to look at student samples and see how the written responses are graded. Reading - We will finish our novel study on Out of the Dust and begin a new book called Tales From the Secret Annex - a lesser known collection of Anne Frank's short stories, fables, and the beginning of her unfinished novel. The students will love this new book!
